Though Boys Be Cool site is still in ruins, well I should have figured out the redesign would take more than two weeks, including the possibility of something going wrong, which it sure did . System glitches galore and the web master decides to take a vacation in the wrongest time possible. I can pull the last hair left on my head or I can dig out my ancient blog and use this platform until the prodigal web master comes back , rested and ready to tackle his own mess. Amen! Let's not waste another minute and get to the point!
The site is a mess! But I don’t see the mess. All I see is the exciting fact that Boys Be Cool had grown enough to warrant these changes! When I launched BBC in January 2010, I wanted to find sisters and brothers in style, boys’ parents who shared my conviction that Boys Had Style Too! We just had to be more creative, more resourceful to dress our boys like stars on a tight budget. I wanted to create a community, where we, the chic-onomic parents of boys could get together, share their shopping resources, cool finds, styling tips, show off the amazing outfits we created for our little dudes and just chat and have fun. I think I succeeded because the BBC tribe is growing and we even needed bigger and better playground to accommodate our growth!
Farewell, Calendar!
We learn and adapt to the changes, tuning the communication and information channels in the process. Facebook had firmly established itself as a meet-up place and the sales newsfeed host, making BBC Calendar of Chic-onomic Events obsolete. So, bye-bye calendar. You didn’t make it to the New Year.
The Short and the Long of It
I stopped fighting with myself trying put out three posts a week, following the initially established posting schedule. Unfortunately or fortunately I don’t function this way, preferring long-form extensive editorials, reviews and profiles with multiple images and hyperlinks, which are unique to Boys Be Cool. I use Facebook and Twitter status updates for daily interaction and blog only when I have something big to say. The guilt trips I’ve given myself for this “poor performance” are over because long take is on the rise as Clive Thompson of Collision Detection, an influential writer on science, technology and culture pointed out on his column for Wired Magazine. Big pat on the back for being ahead of the curve!
Support System
The most exciting aspect of blogging and tribe building, which I am immensely grateful for, is getting to know brilliant, stylish, multi-talented, witty professionals, bloggers and writers - supermoms and dads who believed in Boys Be Cool from the start, supporting it in all the ways possible: sharing links with their audiences, nominating BBC for Babble Top 50: Suzanne Rielle of LoobaLee, Nadia Carriere of Child Mode, Jenny Moyett of Babblings of a Mommy, Elina Furman of Mamaista.com, Eric Burgess of Fashion Dad, Rachel McFarland of Momtastic, Cara Asalita Schrok of Urban Baby Runway; fabulous, amazing BBC readers who frequent BBC site and Facebook page, recommend BBC to their families, friends and readers, comment on status updates, participate in discussions, share cool finds, post pics of their rad little dudes, vote for BBC, spread the love: Nava, Shannon, Shawn, Lisa, Lheesa, Martha, Lorraine, Terry, Charlotte, Jess, Ryan, Anna, Daniela, Courtney, Tamara, Tori, Autum, Katie, Zara, Claire, Laura, Tiffany, April. Please, forgive me if I didn’t mention your name. Every member of BBC Tribe is cherished and highly appreciated. We are small but steadily growing community with an immense potential! Thank you for putting up with my bouts of psychotic misspelling, weakness for exclamation marks and passion for long, ornate sentences turning into occasional gobbledygook:) Thank you for coming back regardless!
Industry Recognition: The Journey Begins…
Another exciting result of the tireless BBC efforts is growing recognition by the cool brands and retail establishments. BBC Style Crusaders Series profiling the coolest brands players on the boys’ fashion playground had been launched successfully with Appaman and Knuckleheads profiles and giveaways. And there are more amazing brands lined up for the New Year.
Hopefully, 2011 will become a year of an incredible success, fabulous collaborations, unstoppable growth, meaning thousands and thousands of mommies getting the raddest stuff for their boys for a lot less, leaps of creativity and the widest recognition of the simple fact that Boys Have Style Too!
